Hey there! Dancing We had a total of 5 trick or treaters. We left the pumpkins and ghost lit the entire 2 hours. We even sat outside in the chirs awhile. Nobody came trick or treating. I took everything down, and cleaned off the front porch today. Do you know how much candy we have? A grocery bag full! My kids have been eating nothing but candy. At least I don't have to cook. Ha ha!Winking

Lobo, I am not sure if I remember the big lit up villages. The one you got sounds really nice though. I got a small A-frame wood scene that plays music, and the figures move. It's probably 10 x 14. The ones I got were only $9.00 each.
I was going to give one as a gift, but I liked them too much at the time. I might send them to my great niece and nephew, so they can enjoy them at their houses. They're the ones I was going to give the Dr. Suess books to.

SoCalGal, I know what I'm cooking for Thanksgiving. I'm roasting a big fat turkey, and am just going to make a few side dishes. We'll probably have fuit salad, cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, italian green beans, biscuits, and pumpkin pie. The fridge doesn't hold that much, so we have to be careful not to make too many things this year. I'm only making the side dishes that I know my family likes, and will eat up. We just mainly want enough turkey to have lots of leftovers for sandwiches.

I'm not making gravy from the drippings. I like the Campbell's soup turkey gravy. It tastes like KFC's gravy. Have you ever tasted it? I didn't discover that until I bought a can for the first time last year. It's so good!

Cometgirl, are you going to brine your turkey? I don't think I will this year. I'm just going to do it like I saw Martha Stewart do hers this week. She even showed how to pin down that skin around the neck opening. Her turkey was so pretty!
She said to stuff it with your hand. I always used a spoon. I'm going to make a bread stuffing, not cornmeal. I'm going to rub it down with butter, salt, pepper, and cook it. That's all. I don't want it to have any odd flavors, so no experimenting this year with herbs or fruit juices.

Danni, how was Halloween at your place? They started the Christmas game. I didn't win anything. Hope they let us reuse names this time. I hope we win something! Gas is still $2.54. I'm going to try not to run our heater too soon. I bet it's going to cost and arm and a leg. That's why I bought sweats for everyone. I'll just put extra blankets on the beds, so we'll just have to run the heater in the mornings when everyone is getting ready for school and work. I'm getting tired of those 2 & 300 dollar electric bills when you run the heat or airconditioner. I'm switching to those low watt bulbs. We have some, but I'm going to put them on all the lights around here. I think I'm going to make some of those door draft stoppers since I have my sewing machine out. They wanted $14.00 for the one you slide under the door at Walmart. I don't think so! We can make our own. I'm going to the crafts department at Walmart tomorrow to see what they have to make them.

We hardly had any trick or treaters either. I sent a bunch of candy back with college guy. I kept tootsie-pops and threw away everything else.

We're going to my sisters for Thanksgiving. Chef probably has to work. I'm making stuffing and bringing fruit & chocolate for dipping. I want eggnog! Yum.

Saturday my Dad turns 73 & Mom turns 73 in Dec. My sister bought them tickets to a dinner theater musical. I think it's Nov 17 - Thoroughly Modern Millie. I'm going too.

Back to DH & Monday Night Football - ttyl

Tomorrow I’m going to make chicken tortilla soup that my sister told me about. Don’t ask me why soup in this hot weather...LOL! I must be nuts!d'oh! Well, the chicken has been thawing out in the fridge so I gotta do something with it, right?

Saturday I’m meeting my friends for lunch. Time to celebrate our minister friend’s b’day.Dancing Okay, its HIS b’day but I’VE decided that we’re going to BJ’s Restaurant & Brewery ‘cuz I’ve got a taste for a pizookie!Applause Specifically, white choco macdamia nut!!!! YEAH!!! They’ve got a new drink that sounds interesting, a pumpkin ale...hmmmmm... Eh, I’ll probably hate it. Never had ale before, and pumpkin? Oh, man...what the heck am I thinking?! PB, you know I’m an MGD gal...LOL!

Been talking to the XMan...hmmmmm.Think He’s got computer probs and for some unknown reason he thinks that I can fix it...HUH??? I think he’s useless when it comes to computers, but ask him to design a part or circuit for a rocket or space missile and he’s on it. So I’m going up there Friday morning to see if I can help him out. I already told him that I’m getting rid of IE and converting him to Firefox...Dancing! He had NO clue what I was talking about.Brick wall

Lobo~I'm baking mini brownie bite cookies tomorrow morning. I'll stop by and leave some in the kitchen.

Danni~I heard something on the radio this morning that surprised me about your state...you don’t pay property taxes? True? So do you pay higher taxes in other ways to pay for stuff that property taxes would take care of like we do? We’ve all got big checks to write for the tax man for our 1st installment that's due by 12/10...BLAH!!!!! d'oh!

Yawn...I need to go and visit slumber-land... C’yah!

Have a beautiful day ...

I got up at 6 a.m. to go vote, but had to get the garbage and charity stuff outside, so I haven't left yet. We're voting for a new governor & sheriff today.
The lines at my new voting place are going to be really long. I used to be able to just go right in and vote in my old neighborhood. The kids are off of school.

Cometgirl, I put the candy out of sight, because I was eating it just because it was there.

That musical your parents are going to sounds like it's going to be good. I think I've heard of that title. I bet you'll enjoy it.

My kid has to work on Thanksgiving too. He works Thursday through Sunday. I told him not to worry about it, because we never eat until around 2 p.m. anyway. That's what time he gets off.

I know you're glad your son can come home from college this time. That's great!

My daughter is sick as a dog. She caught a cold at school. Some of the kids caught the flu already. They haven't been vaccinated yet.

I need to go through my files, and find Okiegal's bread stuffing recipe. That's the one I'm making. It's real simple. I haven't seen her. I wonder if she still posts? Maybe I can find her, and ask her to post it. She had some really good recipes, like FoodGuy did

SoCalGal, I didn't realize that Foxfire replaced IE. I didn't really know what y'all were talking about either. LOL!Winking Your boyfriend's job sounds awesome! He must have something up his sleeve to have called you out of the blue. Hum? Winking Winking

What are you going to order at BJ's? Isn't that the place that has southern dishes, or is that a pizza place? I forget. I don't know about pumpkin ale either. Hum? Sounds interesting. I bet it's good. There was this one episode of Clean House, where the lady was a shop-a-holic. She liked to order thing from tv. She had soda pops made from Thanksgiving flavors. She had turkey gravy soda, brussel sprout soda, etc... I was thinking, "Sounds like something she probably ordered from HSN!" Do you recall them selling something like that? She had bought several boxes of it. She got them sold at her garage sale. They didnt' think she'd be able to do it. She was giving taste samples. Didn't look like anyone liked it, but I guess the lady who bought them thought they'd be fun to have.

Danni, I was thinking. I don't have to sew door cozys. I keep forgetting about heming tape, and sewing glue. Duh!

PB, today's our garbage day too, I cleaned out old dated cans. Our gas is up to $2.88... disgusting. Think I'll go back to the Indian reservation to fill up. It was $2.7? at Costco yesterday so I didn't fill up.

PB, Firefox is just another browser to use instead of Internet Explorer because they say most virus attacks are aimed at IE. It's a fast load & easy to use.

Halloween was so quiet here, I saw nobody walking around! So next year I'm not getting any bags of candy unless it's the kind I like! Well, I suppose I'd better not do that either?

I have mostly those low watt bulbs. They aren't very bright when you first turn them on then they warm up I guess and get brighter. It's noticeable above the kitchen sink (the only one I turn on).

Comet, your folks are still youngun's! I'm sure they'll enjoy their fun night out celebrating!

SoCal, yes we pay property taxes, quite high. We don't pay a personal income tax separate like they do in Oregon on top of federal income taxes. My house taxes are included in my house payment so no whopping checks to write twice a year. I'm so glad of that.

Hey, Lobo! I didn't see you posting yesterday. It took me awhile to write mine, because I get interrupted by other things when I write these days. We must of been writing at the same time.

That sounds like fun, going out to get kindling and all that for your wood stove. It reminds me of when we lived next to a National Forest, and we lost electricity for a week after a ice storm. Now, that was roughing it! Nobody was prepared for what we got, and it just hit our little town. Weird!

I think my daughter has the flu. First she was stuffy, sneezing and coughing like she had an allergy. Then, she broke out into a fever, so I thought it was a cold. Now, since last night she's been throwingSick her guts up. I think she has that darned swine flu! Say a prayerPray for her to feel better, please!!!! They were on our news last night talking about a stay at home mom who caughter the swine flu and died, because she got phneumonia. They said one day her lungs were clear, and the next day they were full of fluid. She left 2 little children behind. That must be a bad flu! And, prayPray that none of us catches it from my daughter if that's what she has. We're washing our hands, and cleaning surfaces with Lysol. I keep telling everyone not to touch their faces. I have a window open too, to keep fresh air circulating in the house.

There wasn't a line when I went to vote yesterday. I didn't have to wait at all. When they had the presidential election, we had to wait over an hour to vote.

Danni, I have one of those low watt bulbs in the kitchen ceiling, and it hardly lights the room at all. I have to turn on all the Hallogen bulbs to be able to see in there to cook or anything. I think they just didn't buy a strong enough bulb for the ceiling. Must be a 60 watt instead of a 100 watt power bulb. Maybe it's a 40 watt? It's really not much light at all.

I wouldn't have property taxes not be in my monthly mortgage either. That's dangerous. What if you just didn't have it when it came time to pay? You could loose your house! That's why I don't want to have to pay income tax at the end of the year either. I don't know if I'd always have it. You never know what'll come up during the year. My mom and mil are always telling me it's time to pay their income taxes, and it's usually like around $8,000.00. That's got to hurt to have to write out that size of a check to send to the government. I'd rather them have to write me a check. We've only ever had to pay at the end of the year once, and I think that was for state taxes. It was only like $50 something dollars.

I wish they'd quit playing these games with the price of gas. Lets drill our own oil already! I don't think we're going to quit using gasoline, and I don't want them to use corn to produce cheaper gas. We have animals and people to feed, especially with so many people not working. I keep hearing all these prophets talking about how 2010 is going to be even worse, and by 2012, watchout! They say it's not going to get better, but worse. One of those prophets on It's Supernatural said he heard an angel in a dream crying in a loud voice, "Oh, the woes of 2012! Oh, the woes of 2012!", but he didn't know what woes the angel was crying about. He's an end-time prophet. He said his mom almost lost him when she was pregnant with him, and an angel appeared to her one night when she was praying and said she wouldn't lose her baby, and that he'd be a latter day prophet. He has visions and dreams of things to come. He has made a lot of predictions, and then they happened. It was documented. You can see about it on Sid Roth's It's Supernatural web site.

You had to get rid of old canned food? I cleaned out the fridge, and threw away old food too. It's near empty, but we have some good meats and shrimp in the freezer, and I have a full pantry. This morning my son was looking in the freezer saying that all we have special occassion food. Ha ha! It's all roast, steaks, jumbo shrimp, and things like that. We have plenty of peasant food too. Beans, Underwood canned meat spreads, tuna, and soup. The reason we have 'special occasion' food is, because I bought it when it was on sale.

I moved some of dh's things back into the garage. The den is so close to being clean. I just have to figure out where to put empty luggage, boxes of pictures, and things like that. We have no storage in this house!

I need to go get my wipers fixed. One on the right quit working the other day. I wanted to do it early this week, but I can't leave my daughter home alone. And, I need two front tires. They have no tread on them. The back tires look brand new. I don't know why the front ones wore out so fast? I'm just going to get some at Walmart. I think their cheap tires are only about $25.00 each. I just hope they don't tell me that I need a new windshield wiper kit again. I got one just 2 years ago. It cost like $300.00.

PB~Come on by for dinner...I’ve got two packages of string beans in the pressure cooker, pork chops and cornbread baking in the oven and a small apple pie on the counter. And early this morning I baked some mini brownie bites.Dancing I'll be sending good thoughts and prayers up for your daughter.Pray I’m sure she’ll be feeling better real soon.

Hmmmm...dunno what I’ll order at BJ’s.Think I love their deep dish pizza and fish tacos. They’ve added some new menu items...decisions, decisions, decisions!?d'oh! Just might go for the Thai Shrimp Lettuce Wraps who knows!?

Danni~I thought that didn’t sound quite right. You just can’t trust these news people nowadays to get the story straight. Sheesh... Got gas today and paid $2.85 at Arco, seems to be holding steady. Oh, we seem to get taxed to death for everything here.Brick wall That blasted Terminator couldn’t get a decent state budget so we’re paying for stuff, he calls it "fees" instead of "taxes"...same thing just a different name, and now they want to raise the car registration renewal fees to keep the state parks open. If he hadn’t been spending money the state didn’t have we wouldn’t be in this blasted situation...d'oh! GRRRRRR! Glad he is going to gone VERY soon! Ok, enuf venting.

Lobo~Your “farm girl” life sounds great to this city slicker girl…,LOL! So nice to grow and harvest your own food. I could really get into doing that.

Not too long after I wrote to y'all about how sick dd was, she stopped being queezy and her fever broke. She came downstairs and ate dinner last night! This morning she asked for an egg & toast breakfast. She's fine! I was going to keep her home, but she wanted to go to school, so I took her. I'm so happy!Applause And, thank God that none of us caught what she had. I'm not sure what it was, but it was bad. Whew!

SoCalGal, that dinner sounded delicious! What are you cooking tonight? Tonight I made spaghetti, Banquet fried chicken legs, salad, and garlic toast. The chicken was so good. I could eat another piece. I have an apple pie in the freezer. I probably should of baked it. That'd be real good with fried chicken. I toasted the pumpkin seeds yesterday. They smelled so good toasting in the oven.

Hum? What to have at BJ's? That's a good question. It all sounds good! I was going to say a fish taco, but now I'm thinking that shrimp wrap sounds good. Why don't you all just order a bunch of things, and share?

Where are you going to make the X-man take you to eat? There's so many good restaurants where you live. I would have a hard time deciding where I wanted to eat. Those little diners that they showcase on The Food Network make me want to go there. The food looks fabulous! And, what about all those nice bakeries, and candy shops they showcase there? OMG!

I can't believe about that post shooting today. The subject came up this morning before my kids left for school and work. We were talking about how to escape if someone at school or work did such a thing, and started shooting at people. My oldest said that would never happen on the base where he works, and that he's safe working there. I told him that wasn't true. It could as easily happen there, and so he should know what to do if it ever did. Dh used to go to Ft. Hood a lot when he was in the LA-ARNG. We went with him one weekend, and stayed on the post when the two oldest were little. I thought the post was real nice, and we had a good time seeing everything. I am so sorry this happened to the soldiers that work there, and from a fellow officer. They said he was a psychiatrist up here at Walter Reed Medical Center, and recently got transferred down there. That's so strange how these attackers seem to have some kind of connection to this state. They haven't released the names of the other shooters yet, if there are more. They said it's not a t attack. Hum? I can't wait to hear what the FBI finds out. I put my flag up for them. Poor souls!

Did you all hear on the news something about how they're breaking into Face Book accounts, and are getting people's credit card information? I'm glad I didn't join now. I did tell my friend to give one of my oldest friends my email address, and he just wrote me. We have been friends since before 1'st grade. We used to cut up, and giggle so much that we'd get into trouble together. We got kicked out of second grade, and sent back to first for the day, because we couldn't behave. LOL! He lives in Dallas, and has his own hair salon. I asked him if he knows The Naughty Chef? He should of named his salon The Naughty Cut. Ha ha! We were bad. Cool

HI PB, soooooo very glad your dd is all better and none of you got that "tummy bug" !!

The face book thing is exactly why I do not ever join such things.Every time you put your peresonal info on the internet, more & more people can gain access to it...scary stuff !! I have quit ordering on line ( except HSN ), I get catalogs from most of my fav.sites and just send a money order, that really helps stop impulse spending too...this is a GOOOOOOD thing !! LOL

My gdaughter was with me for two days, she found a clearance ring ( HSN) she really liked so I ordered it for her birthday. She will be 14...YIKES, where did the years go !!!!!!!

Making roast beef, mashed taters, gravy, peas for dinner today.

It's very foggy here this morn...think I might get dressed and take a walk...LOVE the fog !!

Very good dinner menu, Lobo! Today it was leftovers for us with salad, Tony C’s yellow rice and raspberry lemonade iced tea.

PB~I didn’t have the Thai Shrimp Lettuce Wraps after all. I ended up ordering the BJ’s favourite mini pizza, house salad and pink lemonade like I always do...LOL!Dancing And of course my favourite white choco macadamia nut Pizookie.Dancing My girlfriend was telling us all about her vacation to China and she brought us back the cutest snow globe of the Great Wall in it. And my minister friend came after to give mom communion. He is such a sweetheart! Applause

Yep, lots of restaurants here and places here sell all kinds of goodies. Hmmmm...sometimes I think that is not such a good thing...d'oh! LOL! And now we’ve got lots of specialized gourmet catering trucks selling cupcakes, grilled cheese sandwiches, ice cream you name it. And to think it all started on Twitter with Kogi a few years ago with their Korean BBQ, people stand in line for hours waiting for them.

Well, the XMan’s is happy!Dancing The computer is working ok now. And I even got the printer working too! But boy did it take me longer than I thought it would, almost half the day .d'oh! He couldn’t tell me anything about what happened, what he did or anything.d'oh! ARGH!!! Still need to do some more things to fine tune it and show him some stuff. He already aked me, "When is lesson part 2?" LOL! Gee, I have no idea where I want to go for dinner, gotta think about it, way too many choices.Think He wanted to go to dinner after I finished but I decided to wait until after I get everything all taken care of first.

That Ft. Hood shooting was terrible. Yeah, you would think it’d be safe there, but nowadays it seems like there isn’t a place that’s really “safe” anymore. If that nutcase didn’t like being in the service why didn’t he just get out when he had the chance? Brick wall

We got so much done in my den yesterday. I only have a couple of very small boxes of books, mostly cook and religious books people gave me, to put on the book case and then I'm done. We worked in the garage too. I'm going to ask my friend if she wants to have a garage sale. I want to sell some furniture.

Hey, Lobo! Wow, your granddaughter is 14? They have some real good deals on jewelry here at HSN. I probably wouldn't have any nice jewelry pieces if it weren't for the values you can get here sometimes. I got some nice pink saphire and blue topaz rings and earrings. I like them a lot!

I usually shop here, and Lands' End, but I haven't bought anything from L. E. since spring. Last thing I got were those HinH capri jeans they had on sale here a few months ago. I do a lot of window shopping. I fill my cart with the things I think I want or need, and then clear my cart, and get off the computer. Cool I'll probably buy a few things online when Christmas comes, because of the sales and free shipping. It's easier to send things to the relatives that way.

That dinner does sound good. I'm cooking a roast today. I'm just putting carrots and potatoes in with it. I'm going to bake a Mrs. Smith apple pie for dessert.

SoCalGal, I had a feeling you were going to get the pizza. What a nice thing for your friend to give your mom Communion! I hope he had a very happy birthday.

Did you know that you don't have to fry those frozen hushpuppies? I dind't know that. My son wanted some last night with the fish, and I didn't feel like frying them. He said, "Why don't you bake them?" I didn't think you could, but sure enough you can. And, they taste great! They were moist.

Congratulations on getting the x-man's computer working! I know he's happy. I can't wait till your date! Winking He'd better take you some place nice. How about to an ocean front restaurant? Sexy!

Remember you said you had papers to shred? They have a big shredding service here in town. You take your things to the mall parking lot next weekend, and they'll shred all your documents for you. They do it as a community service, so people don't get their identity stolen. Maybe they have something like that in your area. You should ask your friends.

Where's everybody else hiding? Wonder what happened to Maryjo & Kit? Has anyone heard anything from RLS? She wrote me back, and then stopped. I hope she's okay!

They said that Major who shot those soldiers at Ft. Hood went to the same mosque here that 2 of the 911 attackers went to. That's the connection! They need to check that mosque out, and find out what's going on there.

Hi PB, yep, she will be 14 next month...can you hear my old bones creaking....LOL

After school we went down to the barn to see my daughters kittens. There are 7 of them,3 sets of twins,2 dark fuzzy,2 orange fuzzy and 2 striped short hair and the odd one is the only female,a calico. Most will be going to a friends farm to be barn cats, they will probably keep the twin dark ones...I would like one but I have Bug & Trouble, Em has the other three from the litter Bug came from so they are full up too.

It is getting dark so soon now, 6 o'clock...I really dislike it...those long evenings make me want to go to bed early.

Well better get off here and pay attention to Em...

Have a cozy evening everyone !!

HAPPY VETERAN'S DAY!

No school. My kids played games all night. They probably won't be getting up anytime soon.

I didn't know that a noreaster was coming. They said it'll be the worst in 20 years. Any homes along the coast, that don't have a barrier wall, could easily end up in the ocean. Wow! They said it's going to last 3 days. I'd gone to get my tires and windhsield wiper fixed, but the man was short workers. They were all out sick. He told me to come back after Veteran's Day. I don't even know if I can get on base to take my kid to work with a broken windshield wiper. I know the guards are going to say something.

I added sliced fresh mushrooms to that roast last night. They weren't very tender. I thought they were kind of tough. Didn't taste them either. I probably won't do that again. Whole mushrooms would probably be better. Dinner was delicious! The pie was good too.

We went grocery shopping yesterday. I just got stuff for hotdogs, burgers, and chilli. Don't need many groceries with Thanksgiving on the way.

I thawed all the frozen berries in the freezer, and made a pretty berry & bananna fruit salad the other night. That was so good, but there sure were a lot of seeds to deal with. I'm probably going to make a peach & bananna fruit salad for Thanksgiving. I want it to be soft and creamy. I might cut down on my menue by making small portions so it'll be eaten in one day. Nobody wants leftovers the next day anyway. All they want are sandwiches & any leftover dessert.

Lobo, your daughter's cat sure had a lot of kittens. That'll be great for keeping down the mice population around the barns out there!Winking I don't have any pets here, but there is a long haired black cat that comes and sits on my big silk pillow on the front porch wicker rocker every night. It's real comfortable. He actually sleeps there all night. He's made it his bed.

Why do you think having a 14 yr. old grandchild makes you old? You're not old! If anything, she's keeping you young & hip. Cool What a blessing!

p.s. It starts getting dark about 4:30 here. It's night out by 6 for sure. I am having a hard time trying to stay up at night these days, so I've been missing a lot of my favorite shows. I think it's too light too early in the mornings. By the time the kids are leaving for school, it looks like mid-morning it's so bright out. I think we shouldn't have DST.

Hey everyone, I'm still here although there are days.... ? I've had a few lately. Today is looking up! Happy 2

It gets dark here by 5 p.m. for closing the curtains. And the earliest will probably be 4 p.m. But I'm glad I don't live in Alaska!
