Our gas is up to $2.79 yesterday! Yikes! We had a day or two of nice weather it's in the 40s again today.
I am job searching but not going until they put me out the door. I'm worried about insurance. I'll be working till my last breath I'm sure. I'm only 50 no retirement. I don't want to go back to school. I did that last time I lost my job in the 80s. No one was buying candles anymore so I quit it. I'm not cut out to be a salesperson.
The ferret is not allowed in the rest of the house. DH has taken him out of the cage & asked me to pet it. I said no - I don't want to get attached. He's got a cute face, but too stinky!
I've been shopping a lot at Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. I'm trying to get more organic with meat & produce. A few weeks ago I made a chicken soup all organic - it was amazing! I've been using up the regular food in the deep freezer, of course - waste not, want not.
Two months till Christmas, can you believe it? I'm probably only going to buy actual Christmas presents for my little nieces and nephews. The oldest says he's so happy in school & is apt that he doesn't want anything else. And the youngest, I'll give money so he can get what he wants. I'm going to get DH his own laptop. I want him to blog about his motorcycle & equipment. Everyone asks his advise or copies what he does. I think it could be successful.

You remember my friend that just lost her son? Her husband passed away last night. She seems to have peace about it. He was very ill, so it was somewhat expected. I hope she reaches out to her son's wife and children, so they can comfort eachother. She has a good heart. Cometgirl, they've been selling the organic meats at the commissary, but I am not sure how to treat it. Like, do you stick it in the freezer as soon as you get it home or what? It's not frozen at the supermarket. They had the all natural chicken on sale the other day, and I noticed some of the plastic wrappers were ballooning. Makes me think there is bacteria growing on the meat. I got some, but made sure the cellophane was still sticking to the chicken. I'm saving it to make gumbo, and chicken 'n dumplings. 40's? That's winter wheather around here! I wouldn't be working in the yard at all. My kid told me that he started his Christmas list. I told him that he's 25 and working! He said he just wants one game. I'm taking him, my daughter, and his friend to see Astro Boy today. Lobo, I'm glad that you finally got to cook on your new iron stove. SoCalGal, I've been cooking good meals, but nobody wants to eat. I made collard greens, pork chops in gravy, rice, and baked sweet potatoes the other day. It was absolutely delicious! They said they weren't hungry, so they barely touched it. I served it every night for 4 nights straight, and then finally had to throw away what was left. They wouldn't touch the apples and banannas either, so I made them into a fruit salad last morning. The two oldest got into the salad, because they think it's a dessert. I think I know how you feel when your mother won't eat what you cook. I took out some ground beef for today, but am not sure what I'm going to do with it. I hate to make a big pot of chilli or spaghetti, and then nobody want any. I might let my freezer go empty again until they decide what they want to eat around here. They had a big sale on tuna, so I stocked up. I can live on tuna sandwhiches, and they can just fend for themselves. Won't bother me! Danni, how are your pets doing?

Ahhhh PB, I was so sorry to see your friends DH passed away. I do hope she reaches out to her DIL & grand-kids. They will help her through it. Isn't organic meat the same as the other? It's just how it's fed (raised). When we were raising our beef they were grain fed once a day. The pigs got bread & milk slop. Made the meat so tender & juicy! I love home grown meats! I would definitely stay away from ballooning packaging. Someone told me our little grocery store here adds coloring after so many days on the shelf to make the meat look fresh. They have a good return policy but still makes me hesitant, so watch those dates all. 40's to low 50's here. We're in the same boat as Comet! And I'm not out in the yard even though I should be. I'm a warm weather girl since there is no meat on these bones anymore! I can't believe no one is eating your wonderful meals! Too much in between snacking? Eating at work? Do you put potato chips on your tuna sandwiches? That's how I like mine! YUM! Let me know when the gumbo is ready! Pets are doing fine! Gabby is up on the window ledge looking out at the world. Of course now she needs a stool and a play platform to get up to the ledge. She doesn't do a lot of walking to practice on her 3 legs.... maybe I should be 'rehabilitating' her? Comet, my g/f a long time ago (the one who's dh drown & remarried & moved to Alabama) had a ferret. It didn't smell. Was a neat pet. I think it spent every day after school out of it's cage to play w/the kids. Then slept in it's cage. She never tended to keep pets long, lost their luster I guess. How long do those critters live? Couldn't they have gotten a gerbil or something? Our gas is on the rise too... up to $2.82! Terrible. But I fooled 'em! I got gas at the Indian Reservation the other day. It was $2.66. That's even cheaper than Costco. I've done that the last 2 months instead of getting it here in town or wherever the price was cheapest. PB, way to go on the speech! I could never do that.... too shy. I'd be sweating bullets and put myself into a panic attack fer sure. My tummy is not settled. September & October haven't been real good months so far for me. I haven't gained an ounce... and I thought I'd been eating alot! I've gotten green grapes twice & they've been excellent! So good. I tried looking to see where they came from but the package was unmarked. I can't do creamed corn.... the milk in it. I do usually peel apples, peaches, homegrown tomatoes, etc. But hadn't thought about beans & such. Now that would be getting picky wouldn't it? I mean ya have to have some roughage don't you? SoCal, glad to here your mom & brother are feeling better. Have they put in the medi-port for easier access to chemo? That's so much better I think than going for a vein every time. Maryjo, I colored my hair the other night. I found the No Gray at Walgreen's in Olympia and it worked at covering my pesky grays at my temples. Wow! I'm impressed. Those dang grays never covered before. Now it's pretty all over. I used Natural Instincts 28 day Sedona Sunset.... a reddish brown. Nothing going on here... oil change tomorrow and need to get Molly groomed. But that is always a morning appointment & my mornings haven't been all that super lately so have been holding off! She needs her nails trimmed mostly. I can't see to do that!

PB - I'm so sorry your friend's DH passed away. I hope she reaches out to her family also. It's so sad. I wouldn't have bought that meat either. I treat it the same way. Keep out what I'll use in a day or two, freeze the rest. To be organic it can't have any hormones or antibiotics, also the food it eats has to be organic too - I think. Danni - A few years ago one of the grocery chains around here was adding coloring to the meat too. I'm pretty sure they were ordered to stop it. I didn't buy meat there. The organic is so good. I guess the male ferrets have more of an odor than the females. Almost-DIL already has a ferret at her house that's why he got her this one. SoCalGirl - I hope your Brother is still doing better. I know this is hard on you and your Mom. I haven't tried any new coffee creamers lately. Next time I'll look for the Vanilla Carmel Brownie creamer. I just got back from a pumpkin farm I bought a cute ghost decoration, pumpkin fudge ( I ate too much lol) and for DS apple cider and an apple pie. That place was packed.

I’m so sorry about your friend’s hubby, PB. Good going with the speech! I’ve had to make ‘em and ALWAYS hated it...BLAH!! But I’ve always gotten positive feedback about my presentations...guess I’m good at fooling people...LOL!! Mom had her flu shot weeks ago when she went to see the doc. Oh, man baked sweet potatoes sounds sooooo good!! I haven’t had any for a long long time. The last I bought weren’t very sweet...BLAH! You’ve really been doing some good cooking!!! Well, lately Mom’s been eating and not really complaining...still just a tablespoon of everything. One day last week we had chicken couscous, salad, crescent rolls and rotisserie chicken. Another day it was black eyed peas, cornbread, meatballs, raspberry lemonade and cole slaw. Today it was Italian style pot roast, crescent rolls, milk, Stove Top stuffing, gravy and snack pies from Wally’s. WOW! Boy, do I envy your gas prices. I’ve been paying $2.85 for 87 octane. But then we have different formulas for summer and winter so I guess you could call these “normal” gas prices for us. Don’t have to fill up that often now so a full tank lasts a long time now ‘cuz I’m only driving around the city going to the market, mailing stuff at the post office, taking mom to the doc, etc. My brother gets the vein routine when he goes in for chemo. When he was in the hospital they had trouble finding a vein, ended up using one in his neck. His doc says that there are clots in the veins and he thinks they’re from the cancer. He came out yesterday and considering all that he’s dealing with he seems to be ok. Cometgirl~that pumpkin fudge sounds delicious!!! I should look for some around here...or maybe I shouldn’t!? LOL! Sigh...not ready to even think about Christmas. All I’ll be doing is buying some of those scented pine cones to put on the dining room table and on the coffee table. I’ll mail out cards but no tree, no outside decorations, no gifts and very little cooking. Things will change if I get a job but... Oh, well... Watching the U2 concert on YouTube from the Rose Bowl (out where s/ca lives) and watching my poor Angels losing to those blasted Yankees. Hoping the Yankees get beat in the World Series by the Phillies. "Happines is the experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude." ---- Unknown

Socal, I agree about the Yankees !! I was really glad Our Detroit Tigers lost out and did not have to face NY, I KNEW they could not beat them and was saved the stress of watching....LOL....GO Phillies !!!
We don't do any holiday decorating either, I just get out my snowman collection and the child sized sleds I have gathered, my lighted shadowbox village and do a winter theme.
I got that shadowbox village here on HSN about 5 years ago...anyone remember them ?Wish they would offer something else ,just winterish. I try to celebrate winter, even tho I don't really like it....
Have a perfectly peaceful evening all..

Comet! I sure hope you don't get bad news.... I'll have everything crossed for good luck and be thinking of you! I hope your boss is wrong! SoCal, our gas is $2.83 (in town) for the lowest end gas. I don't look at the highest price. I don't believe their reasons for the raises.... either high demand or low demand. They raise it because they can. They also say winter formula or summer formula. Come on!!! Ouch! Your poor brother. They used veins for dh's chemo too until they couldn't find a good one anymore (they were collapsing on them) so they did the port. And for me they just went immediately to a port. I'm so glad. Much less pain I would think. I'll pray he has no more clots & no problems of any kind. Comet, pumpkin fudge? I've never heard of it. My gm made chocolate (male & female) & peanut butter. I would imagine pumpkin would be good! How was it? I just hate it but I need to call Comcast. My bill this month was much too high. I just hate calling them. And it's that time of year for changing Medicare's supplemental plan. The one I have is going up $40 a month & my prescription plan is going up too! What's a girl to do? I just hate having to make all these calls and trying to find answers and making decisions. As Toby Keith says 'I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was!"

Cometgirl~Hang in there!! I’m a firm believer that things always happen for a reason and they ALWAYS turn out the way they’re supposed to! Interesting about the ferret...I think they’re illegal here but some folks still have ‘em as pets. Danni~Seems like so many probs with all of this healthcare stuff and not getting any better...sheesh! Guess its never ever gonna end...sigh... Mom is so glad that she retired from Kaiser at just the right time, her med coverage is 100%FREE!!!! Now retirees have co-pays, not too much but still co-pays. Picked up one of her refills last week and it costs OVER $1100 for 180 pills, didn’t cost her one single penny!! Hope you can do something about your cable bill. I’m kinda glad that I don’t cable or anything. I just make do with the “free” regular DTV channels, watch stuff on the laptop and use Netflix. Hey, I really like Toby Keith’s way of thinking...LOL! Don’t know about WA but we have so many environmental regulations here that we need to have winter/summer grades of gas, smog levels and all that stuff. Just a way of life of living in CA so we’re used to it. I’m off to Fresh & Easy to pick up a few things. Love that store! It reminds me of Trader Joe’s...but I think the prices are maybe a tad lower. Hey, PB BBQ ribs on the dinner menu for today! Hee haw!!!! "Happines is the experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude." ---- Unknown

Today would’ve been my beloved dad’s 89th b’day...sigh... Two years now and I miss him terribly... So I’m cooking his favourite dinner. On today’s menu, rib eye steaks, baked potatoes, broccoli, a bottle of wine and a double cream lemon pie from Marie Callendar’s. So many people around here have their front yards all decked out for Halloween. Its so amazing how truly creative some people are...WOW! I'm wearing shorts, because it was hot, but now I need to go change into sweat pants, because it's windy and cold. LOL! It's going to be near 80 this weekend. This is supposed to be a good Halloween night. It'll be warm. I didn't see too many houses decorated for Halloween around here. Just 2 really put out much in their yard. We have so many houses in foreclosure in our neighborhood. There's 3 on my little street alone. I don't think people are in too much of a festive mood. I just have a giant pumpkin, lighted ghost, and my yellowish orange mums. I bought way more candy than I know will even come here trick or treating. It's for my own kids. I'm going to eat candy, and watch lots of ghost shows on Halloween night. And, watch LSU play. They lost to the Florida Gators, but won all their other games.
Lobo, are you talking about those musical shadow boxes with the A-frame roof? I got 2 of them. One is Santa's workshop, and the other is him checking his list next to a christmas tree. I also got a bouncy santa on a stake for the front yard, iron stocking hangers, and some ornaments. I bought boxes and boxes of candles that year. They were dirt cheap, and the shipping was free. I am still using some of the candles. When the UPS man brought my purchases, the boxes were stacked so high that they totally blocked our front door. The neighbors wanted to know what the heck I had ordered?
SoCalGal, those meals sound delicious! I'll send up a birthday wish for your dad today. The sweet potatoes I got were real orange on the inside, and were especially tender and sweet. I just got some wonderful clementines. They're super sweet this year too. You can eat them, peelings and all. I almost didn't buy them, but my oldest swore he'd eat them. Now, everyone is eating them. I ended up making chilli, but I didn't have any chilli beans. My kid told me to use a big can of Bush's original pork 'n beans. It turned out pretty good. They ate it all. Then, I used the organic chicken, and made a gumbo. Cometgirl was right about how good the organic meat is. Usually, frozen skinned chicken breasts can be stringy, and dry, even in a gumbo. These were tender, and just fell apart. I could tell the difference. The gumbo is gone too. Last night, I just did fish sticks, roasted seasoned potatoes, and steamed brocolli. I might make the vegetable beef soup today.
My kid and I did boxes yesterday. He only has one left. It has all his books. My youngest finished his last box. He didn't keep anything. I wouldn't let him throw out the Dr. Suess books. I'd rather give them to one of my neices or nephews. Everything else is dh's. I'm going to go rearrange the garage shelves, and put his stuff out there. He keeps so much junk that nobody would ever want. It's mostly old uniforms, office & computer supplies, and books that he never reads. I want to throw all that stuff into the trash, but I'm afraid he'll ask for it, and I won't be able to tell him where to look. He'd have a hissy fit! I have 2 boxes of photos to deal with. I don't know what to do with them. Those little photo organizer boxes are like $8.00 each, and don't hold much. Maybe I'll just pick out my favorite pictures, and not worry what happens to the rest of them.
Danni, I was watching the Scary, Strange, and Weird show on the animal planet. They said that animals don't feel sorry for themselves when they have a physical dissability. They just learn how to get around with the missing limb or whatever, and go on with their regular happy lives. They said that your cat probably doesn't even realize she's missing a leg. Isn't that amazing? We should all have that kind of attitude about life.
I'm sorry about your insurance going up. I hope everything works out. I hate dealing with those agencies! What a pain. I called Cox and got my bill lowered, and made the guy give me all the digital channels, minus HBO, and those pay channels. Call Comcast, and tell them someone else has a better deal at a lower price.
What is male and female chocolate?
Cometgirl, that pumpkin fudge does sound good. I wonder if there's a recipe for it on the web? Fudge is my favorite candy. Yum! My daughter went to the pumpkin farm. They have the corn maze, aniaml petting zoo, and haunted hay ride. I might take them to the hay ride this weekend. Our good friend that the kid's hang out with works there. He's on the tv commercial for the haunted hay ride. They show him jumping into the wagon, scaring everyone. He volunteers.
I haven't heard from my friend. Thank you for the condolences. I hope she's still okay as can be. Haven't heard anything from her. She'd said that she didn't want to take any pills to deal with her grief after her son died, but this is different. I just know she's going to be depressed now that the two people that mean the most to her are gone. If I know her, she's probably mad that they got to go be with Jesus, and she's still here. Seriously, that's how she thinks.

PB, shorts in November (almost)? I'm sooo jealous. It's cold, gray & rainy here, as usual! Our Halloween evening is supposed to be rainy but not as bad as they predicted earlier. That's good. The kids would get soaked in a downpour. Yea, remember I said the vet told me about Gabby that the first time she tried walking she'd fall over and say Dang! Then from then on she wouldn't think about it. She'd compensate. Pretty amazing (an over used word!) I can't tell ComCast someone else has a better deal.... they pretty much have the market covered unless I want to go back to Century tel (no bundle) or Direct tv (no bundle) unless they've changed. Male or female fudge? Hang onto your hat.... plain or with nuts! Happy birthday to your dad SoCal. My dad would have been 81 Nov. 18th... he was a tad short of it is all! Your friend may be doing better than you anticipate with her dh's passing. That wasn't a surprise like her son passing away. But it will still be difficult. She won't know what to do with her time since she has no one to 'care' for like before. I hope she has someone to talk with about her grief. Nothing happening here... well, actually... September & October have been lousy months for me. I hope November is better. I'm getting to a loss as to what will agree with me food wise without going right through me. I fixed a salmon fillet tonight. Cooked in olive oil, that must have been it. And frozen mixed veggies, my fave. I could eat that every night! I might as well eat my food in the bathroom! (Now that's a Kodak moment, right?)

SoCalGal - Ahhh, I bet your Dad was enjoying his HB favorite meal right there with you. We went to a German restaurant on my MIL's bd 10/11 & "toasted" to her. The pumpkin fudge was good. Glad I bought the little one. I can't find that coffee creamer, this time I just got Carmel Macchiato. I haven't tried it yet.
Danni - I call ComCast every year & ask what kind of deal they can give me. There is always something they can cut. I have to help DH sign up for his insurance the first week in Nov. He has to put our college kid on his for 2010. He sees the envelope and says "honey, this is for you" I'll get on it when I have to.
PB - I'm glad you liked the organic meat. It's amazing how different it can taste. Your weather sounds great. Isn't a relief to get rid of stuff??? I need to clean out my closet. I put away tank tops and took out a some halloween & Christmas t-shirts. No sweaters or anything for cold weather. I hope your friend is doing ok.
Hi Lobo - Thanks for the prayers! Your winter decorations sound very cozy and inviting. I keep snowmen out after Christmas almost til Easter - lol.
My sister & I took today off to go to some fun fall places but the weather is too crappy. It's very rainy & really windy here. I cleaned and organized my spice cabinet and 1 big shelf in my pantry (the Worst One!) and I'm making Beef 15 Bean Soup & bread in the bread maker. I hope it's too rainy for trick-or-treaters tomorrow. Not in the mood.

Happy Halloween to everyone! Thankfully, it's nice and warm here for tonight. I think we'll sit on the front porch, and hand out candy for an hour. We don't get that many kids here in this neighborhood. Tonight, I just want to sit down with the leftover candy, and watch Celebrity Ghost Stories on Biography & Taps is doing a live ghost hunt. I watched lots of ghost shows, and Ghost Adventure's live ghost hunt last night. Cometgirl, I've been thinking about making bread in my bread machine. That's what I should of done today. I'm making the soup now. Usually we have McDonald's on Halloween night. That's what my mom used to get us after much begging. LOL! Yes, it feels great to get rid of stuff. We just need dh to get rid of his stuff. He's the problem collector of things around our house. He saves so much stuff that we had to put some of it in storage sheds when we moved here. What a waste of money! I told him, "Do you know what's going to happen to all that stuff if I have to clean it myself?" Except for power tools and some of the Christmas decorations, It'll go straight into a dumpster. You might have more clothes than I do. I just keep what fits into my closet and dresser, and about 6 pair of shoes. When I buy something new, I give away some of what I have. My mom wants me to go all the way to Burlington Coat Factory to buy a velvet jog suit she saw for $20.00. I hate to tell her, but I don't wear velvet jog suits. They're too hot. I'd rather one made out of that parachute material. Danni, I never knew that about fuge. How funny! You should listen to Cometgirl, and give Comcast a call. It never hurts to try. SoCalGal, I figured you gave a lot of speeches in the type work that you do. So does, dh. I would of had him do it, but he wasn't with us. I could of f.r.e.a.k.e.d out about it, but I stopped myself from thinking that way. I knew what to say, so I was ready. Otherwise, I'd of been studdering for the right words, and rushed through it. It really was fun. I felt empowered! Must be how lawyers and politicians feel. It gives you a rush! Wonder where Lobo is? Oh well, I need to get to carving these pumpkins. Have a goulish good time, y'all. Boo!

Here I am PB...I bet you are busy carving away !! We won't have any treaters tonight, these old dusty/muddy country roads are too dark & lonley for the kiddies. I was going to decorate outside for fall but it has rained for most of October and ruined everything... If any of you go trick or treating, don't eat too much candy !! They told on the news of a dentist that was going to buy halloween candy for $1.00 a pound from the kids and send it to the service men & women over seas...LOL Well it's time to watch Night of the Living Dead...again....LOL Take care everyone...see you in November Can I ask a REALLY REALLY dumb question ????????? What does the WOC in the thread title stand for ???? I KNOW I should know but....senior moment here

PB, the shadowbox scene I got is a 1 foot high by 2 foot wide rectangle, it is a German/ Swiss village with small lights in the windows and along the eves of the houses with a pale full moon ...my son-in-law says it looks just like the villages he saw when stationed over seas, all lit up for the holidays. It is my all time vfavorite decoration !!

Oh, you guys are great! Thanx so much for the b’day wishes for my beloved dad! Cometgirl~stopped by Target last week and picked up another yummy creamer, Italian Sweet Cream. They seem to have THE best everyday price on it…a dollar seventy/eighty something. I’ll be on the lookout for the Carmel Macchiato, reminds me of a Starbucks drink. Hot as you-know-what today...WHEW!!! But early in the morning as soon as I get up I’m turning on heaters...go figure!? And Mom has THREE blankets on her bed plus yesterday I put her flannel sheets on. So far neither for me yet. PB~that gumbo sounds great! Today it’ll be leftovers from last night courtesy of El Pollo Loco. I keep thinking that maybe its time for some catfish. Anybody have lots of little trick or treaters last night? It was pretty quiet around here so maybe this year parents took the kids to all the city park sponsored festivals. Already have my menu for Thanksgiving planned. If my brother doesn’t come out then I’ll just fix a small dinner for me and Mom. I already cut out two coupons this morning for Knudsen eggnog...yum! That’s when I really know the holiday season is here. And hopefully someone will have ian Bros brandy on sale along with some eggnog ice cream...oh, yeah! Lobo~save some carrot cake for the coffee gals over in the kitchen. "Happines is the experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude." ---- Unknown
