I sent one of these filters back in the past, because I discovered after using it for a week, that it only removes chlorine.
That doesn't make the water safe. What about Lead, Mercury, those little germs in the water (Giardia Cysts), and minerals that cause calcium buildup?
It doesn't even say it removes the chlorine, it says it removes the TASTE of chlorine. Doesn't sound like such a good deal to me.
Clean and Pure, if you read this, will you please make a REAL water filter that takes out all the bad stuff?
Thanks.

Twinkletoes: I absolutely agree! The last time HSN sold this I call customer service to ask this same question. The filter does not remove all the nasty bacteria that might slip thru the disinfection water plant treatment. It may make the water taste better but not safer. That's why I stay with my PUR filter. HSN needs to make this distinction clear...I think their advertising on this product is misleading.

Figure this one out. I have a water testing device. It indicates total dissolved solids. My PLAIN tap water had less than out of this filter. If you have unsoftened water and a well this product is useless! I buy reverse osmosis H2O from dispenser at grocery store (very low TDS). I use the ZEROWATER filter pitcher for my furbabies!

We've used PUR water filters in our home for quite a few years and would never consider using anything else. No wonder this is such a buy.

Twinkletoes and Candron, I agree. It was misleading. I was juuuuust about to order when I decided to go to the Paragon web site and look at the stats. They do make one that filters out mercury, lead, cryptosporidium, etc., but it is not the maintenance free one that is the TS. The one that filters out the bad stuff you have to replace the filter, which I wouldn't mind doing. In my opinion, that is the one they should be selling. Right now I get my water from a natural spring, which has their water tested for quality. I was glad I looked it up.

I'd be worried about their filter that removes the chlorine. They do the demo of grinding up the filter and adding it to (pink) water, and the chlorine (pink color) being removed. A ground up filter can't do that. A chemical reaction would do that if the filter were ground up. But a filter can't be ground up and then also remove chlorine. Think of a coffee filter. If you grind up the coffee filter, does it still work in your coffee maker? No.
And I'd want to know what type of chemical reaction they were doing and what chemicals were in that filter before drinking water that had passed through it.

My water tastes much better. Before buying this a few years ago, I couldn't get past the horrible clorine smell when brushing my teeth. My husband and I both have this filter on our bathroom sinks. Does it get rid of other stuff besides the smell/taste of clorine? I have no idea! What I do know is it is doing exactly what we bought it to do - to get rid of bad smell/taste!

It really works!!!! i have "city" water , and couldn't stand the taste .... this is wonderful!!!! I have stopped buying bottled water ... i just fill my water bottle from this .... lot cheaper and no plastic bottles to dispose of ......
My friend from work has "Well" water ....... tasted like surfur ...she was spending a LOT of money buying gallons of water from the store ...plus having to haul it in the house from the car ...
i told her about this product and she got it ..... she is really happy!!!! took out the surfur taste and smell ....... she is really saving money and not having to mess with gallon jugs of water ......and her daughter uses the water to wash her hair ....... she's real happy , she used to hide gallon jugs in her room so she could have smell free hair! LOL LOL
If it can take out that nasty surfur smell and taste ..... a little food dye would be a snap ....
OH OH .... and i had mine a over a year and it's still working!!!!!
Great Buy!!!

now I'm confused about these filter machines. pattykaye-are you saying the water tastes better? but it still has all the crummy stuff in it doesn't it?
how come you never have to change the filter? I missed the guy when he was on television, even with brita's you have to change the filter. Something doesn't sound right about this thing.
My apartment water here is so nasty, if I run out of bottled water I pour some red wine into it so I can drink it. Now lots of people are complaining about the small bottles of water not being eco-friendly-can't win. Think I'll pass on this.

I've used the Pure and Brita filters, they work very well and remove not only chlorine, host of other nasty things. The Clean and Pure filter only removed chlorine taste which would account why the taste is improved. Perhaps folks don't need all the filtration. I wish the filters we use would filter out flouride...

I will never buy another item from HSN. I have returned everything I have ever purchased from them. The latest being the Clean & Pure water filter.. Yesterday I wrote a lengthy review, over 2000 words, only to find out it had to be no more then 500. I managed to cut it back, however, big surprise, it was not published, probably because I feel they have grossly mislead us, with their FALSE ADVERTISING & CONSUMER FRAUD.
I couldn't wait to receive it, when it arrived, I removed my old trusty always-in-the-way Pur water filter unit that I have been happy with since day one. It filters everything, and the water has always tasted great. My only complaint with it, and the reason for purchasing the unClean & UnPure unit, was the convenience of gaining back some faucet room.
Fortunately, I had seen the live demonstration, where they specifically said it filtered Chlorine & Sulfur - that being the taste and smell, & impurities. ("Oh look how clean & clear it is," is what was said on tv) Aren't' 'impurities' usually chemicals, pesticides, etc???
I watched in awe as they filtered out the green food coloring, as well as the pink chlorine detector in the blender with the electrostatic particles.
I was so enamored, I instantly ordered the unit online.
I had no problems attaching the unit, & it fit perfectly, despite the fact that NO instructions were included with mine, which I found that kind of odd,, no instructions, advice, warnings, technical information, nothing! (My girlfriend & I ordered them at the same time, she received instructions, but nothing else).
I turned on the unit and had to jump back, as the black charcoal splashed all over the counter area, wall, dish drain with dishes, as well as me before I could shut it off! (Thanks for the warning guys!)
I ran the water until it was clear, then ran it for a while after that to clear out any residue that might be left. Finally, I got to pour me a glass of water. And that's where I became DISAPPOINTED!
It tasted stale compared to my old PUR water faucet filter, as well as my teeth felt like they were coated with charcoal, even though I had completely flushed the unit. I ran the water again, but long story short, it made NO difference.
Yesterday I called the Paragon Water System customer service in Clearwater, Florida (800-288-9708) where I was informed that "ALL THIS UNIT FILTERS IS CHLORINE & HYDROGEN SULFIDE THE TASTE & SMELL," (chlorine & sulfur) and that "IF YOU WANT TO FILTER ANYTHING ELSE, YOU NEED TO PURCHASE A UNIT WITH A REPLACEABLE FILTER!"
Long story short, I removed the UnClean & UnPure water filter unit, and replaced it with my trusty Always-in-the-way PUR water faucet filter, packed up the HSN junk and am sending it back for a full refund!
Hello, HSN? I think you owe us ALL an apology!

HSN I feel, as many retailers, walk a fine line between truth and deception. They hope we will be impulse buyers and never think about what we were buying. I'm sure many times people don't even send back their order not wanting to pay shipping. So, HSN keeps doing these things because they make $. If you google HSN you will find past articles where HSN had to pay $.

as i stated ... i bought this and i am well satisfied .... it does what they said ... takes out the chemical taste ...
i have city water and it is safe .... our water company sents out a report twice a year ...... but it does taste like chemicals ....
i use this and LOVE IT!!! ...... plus ... i don't have to always be buying filters ... i've had other systems but too much trouble and the water tasted like cardboard ....
my friend has well water .... which she has tested on a regular basis ...this takes out the sulfur taste ....
so if you have city water or tested well water and don't want to spend a lot of money or fool around with filters ......this is for you.
works for me

ASPCA-sorry for the late reply!! I love the ZEROWATER-I use it only for my pet's drinking water so the filters last me a lot longer. I also used the coupon at Walgreen's. Then I got a $10 coupon and used it for replacement filters. I actually tasted the water and it's good!

candron wrote:I was thinking that the PUR filter did take out floride...? CANDRON, I had to put in a culligan water system several years ago. I live upstate N.Y,and have a well. We were putting in several gallon of bleach and had it checked for any bacteria. Since we have hard water the culligan has helped to a degree. I use to live in the City and hated the taste of the chlorine, and drank spring water. In addtion we do have a seperate drinking water fountain as the culligan does use salt. Now i have seen advertised a new system that is purified and no salt added. Would be too costly to change, and wish i had known sooner. On the whole the culligan does work well for my purpose. DISGO LIVE,LOVE,LAUGH & BE HAPPY
