george will said this today on this week with george stephanopoulos, and i quote:
"95% of what the government does is redistribute the wealth. it operates on the principal of concentrated benefits & dispersed costs. case in point, we have sugar subsidies. costs the american people billions of dollars but they don't notice it, it is in such small increments. but the sugar growers get very rich on this. now we have socialism for the strong, that is the well represented & organized in washington, like sugar growers, but it is socialism none the less, and it is not new."
i heard him this morning but the transcript is not up yet so i listened to this again online and wrote it down. the in such small increments was almost mumbled, i had to stop and replay it several times to understand him.
peace

I could not find anything on it yet either. There is some interesting information if you look up sugar on wiki and got down to the and go down to Trade and Economics.

peace Of course our democracy has always been a soft socialism. If not we'd be paying for each of our children to go to school. I have none and pay taxes for the betterment of our society. Our public roads, medicare, food and grower subsidies. It's always been there... it will continue; I see no change. Thanks for posting. If a man does his best, what else is there? - General George S. Patton

actually i have been aware of the subsidies of sugar, corn, etc. what i found interesting was what george will said about "redistributing the wealth" and "socialism" as those have become 2 of the loudest cries on these boards and from certain candidates.
the US has some socialized programs just as do most countries and they redistribute the wealth every danged day.............

indeed dude but to listen to some on here and on the campaign trail you would think different. you would think that we have no socialism be it soft or otherwise...........
it just was nice to hear it from george will, that bastion of conservatism is all.
