Hollytree, I'm right there with you and I don't buy jewelry from China either. When you've shopped for jewelry as many years as we have, we certainly know quality from junk. Besides, I imagine you have quite a collection by now, as do I. I know I really don't need anymore so I only buy when I find something I truly love.

I have an aversion from buying MADE in CHINA, and especially jewelry. Definitely has a stigma attached IMO. I don't care now "nice" it presents itself at first look - you will discover after your 30-day return window that your heart's desire purchase was more a clunker than a keeper. Has happened to me numerous times, thus the aversion. Still cannot believe Jay King manufactures his southwest look totally in China - wrong on several levels.
Besides, China "owns" the US via debt - if they were to recall this debt, US could not pay it & it would bankrupt us. Currently, they are upset by having their economy with toxic paper from many of our (still alive or some defunct) investment banks and GSEs. Americans need to be more aware, in general, about serious ramifications of over-dependence on Chinese-made goods and how it harms us.

I don't buy any jewelry anymore with mystery metals or from China, that is such a shame. What exactly is the base metal now-does anyone know, I don't see that info anywhere most things just say silvertone or goldtone??? The only thing I buy jewelry wise here is Nicky Butler, at least his is still 925 sterling silver....

Lightofday, You've certainly shined a light on my Christmas Shopping. Ya know I haven't looked at the country of origin of a few pieces that I've purchased. Thank You. I'll be more aware of this with future purchases. Very interesting topic...I've purchased a few pieces on the Q from RLM for gifts. I'll have to check those out. Yipes...

I've starting collecting Black Hills Gold jewelry, partly because I like many of their designs, but also because it's all made in the USA.
I don't object to some jewelry coming from China, such as jade jewelry and other types of jewelry traditionally made in the Far East, but I agree that way too much of the jewelry on the market is made in China. I was deeply disappointed in Jay King when he moved production from the U.S. to China. I think his designs suffered too. Most of the Chinese-made items are verv plain compared to the more interesting pieces that were made in the U.S. Remember when his line was called "Santa Fe Silver"?

I agree with all of you. I will not buy any jewelry from China. Jay King use to have nice things, not anymore. They are all made in China. Stick with Chaco Canyon or many of RJGraziano's is made in America. I am getting sick of Chinese made things. There are jewelry pieces that are made in the USA. Also, I do love the Italian jewelry.

I agree on the sentiments here in the thread.
The problem for us is that mostly everything is made-in-China: Microwave Ovens, Stoves, Refrigerators, Computers ect. Can this be reversed?? I hope so!

OT but speaking of China, don't think they ever fessed up to their underage pre-teen gymnasts that absconded with gold medals. Children sing anthems of glory to "their dear leader" over there, too.
Agree that jewelry such as jades that are part of their natural culture - no problem. But not jewelry from our wonderful, traditional Southwest USA.
Turquoise mines in China are extremely dangerous. Deaths from day to day mining there are NOT unusual ... Chinese labor laws ... WHAT Chinese labor laws?

The FIG just released its findings a few days ago...their investigation concluded that the Chinese gymnasts were not underage. Google "Chinese gymnasts" to find the story.

Hopefully, it was not one of those agreements made behind the curtain to not embarrass the oppressive Chinese govt, especially since they hosted the games. Those kind of conclusions are not unheard of following a 'period of investigation' also known as cooling down time when facts gets 'negotiated,' akin to pork modifying outcomes of US passing of legislation. Plus, the Chinese threatening to quit buying our debt is akin to economic extortion, so doubts about any conclusion about stripping their gold medalists due to underage (though correct) could have been made to evaporate under currently tense climate between the two countries.
Vote with US dollars not to buy Chinese-made goods whenever you can, or are willing.

It's okay to buy Chinese made products that are traditionally Chinese, but now it's just gone too far with such a large amount of products made in China. Not only is it hurting our labor market, but it is so unhealthy and dangerous on so many levels. We need to vote with our dollars and buy less Chinese made products. (That is if we will have any money!) Plus all the "red" Chinese working in the US labor market--the high paying jobs. Surely we can educate and train our people for these jobs. I work with some Chinese (form China) and they can be so arrogant and disdainful of Americans. (OMG there are so many of them that it's scary.)

Why do people pretend that "Made in China" is synonymous with poor quality? It simply isn't true and has not been true for many years. There are many reasons for bristling at the "Made in China" label but poor quality is not one of them.

I got the customer review survey by email today. I answered all of the questions re: my last phone trasaction with semi high scores, but on the part about how much I would be buying in the future, I was VERY honest and said a big fat "one" which is the lowest number for any liklihood of that happening. I plan on saving alot of money on S&H and goferin' it myself!! 2manybobbles
