As for you -- take a Valium. Let us know how things turn out. Do not worry. Doctor visits for kids are not like they were years and years ago. He will look forward to his next visit, I guarantee it.

I use a pediatric dentist, they use sedation for the wee ones. Makes it easier on everyone and they don't develop a fear of the dentists because they feel no pain. Then they give them toys and popsicles! Now, I still get a little nervous but, that's normal for any mother.

Trust me, it will be worse on you then on your son. When my son was young his foot turned it and tripped him. By the time he was 3 he had knocked out the same front tooth numerous times. He had root canals, and other work done on that tooth trying to keep it in place until his perm tooth came in.
I never went back with my son to the "chair" and he never requested me to nor cried for me. The doctor will guide you! Just relax and read a book or if the weather is nice go outside and sit.
Good Luck but if you let the child handle it on his own, he will never fear the dentist. My son is now old enough to drive himself to the dentist and makes his own appts every 6 months.
Remember children learn FEAR from Adults.
