Do you have a favorite gemstone that you frequently look for and buy? Is there a "dream" gemstone you would love to own but can't afford and can't find what you're looking for? Or do you just buy what strikes your fancy?

I have a favorite--ruby. Fortunately I have several nice ruby rings either inherited or that I've bought through the years. Today you see very little in quality rubies as right now they are pushing the opaques that can be bought for pennies a carat in the rough. The opaques used to be throw aways when it came to being used in the jewelry industry. I do have one large opaque ruby ring set in silver which I bought only for the uniqueness but that will be all the opaques in corrundum that I want. I would rather save for a while and get one really nice 14k (or higher karatage) gold piece of jewelry than many less expensive silver pieces. The are many other gemstones that I like accept I don't care that much for stones that are blue or purple. My dream gemstone would be a large clear emerald solitaire either in a 18K ring or pendant. One can wish! What's your favorite Hitsville?

I love my birthstone, aquamarine. They look beautiful in yellow and white gold and have a lot of sparkle. It's not always easy to find really high quality. I love pink stones, I have a really wonderful ring that has beautiful pink sapphires.

I love a lot of gemstones, but I'd have to say that I love diamonds, tanzanite and pink tourmaline best. And if all three are mixed together? So much the better!!

Zircon, in all its many and varied colors. I love the way they sparkle and shine in the light.

My favorite gemstones are diamonds, followed by sapphires, rubies, emeralds, garnets, tanzanites, and pearls, but if If I were stranded on a deserted island and had to choose, I would have chosen diamonds (I am obssessed with good quality diamonds, anything above the SI/HI) FUNNY my birthstone is pearl, oh how I wished I were born in April, lololololololol...

Garnets of all colors but especially the tsavorite. I love that green. I would also love to own a clear, rich in deep color emerald of 5 ct or more.

I forgot to mention lapis. I remember HSN would have a couple shows a year that were devoted exclusively to lapis jewelry. I've picked up a couple pieces in 14K gold, and the quality of the lapis was excellent. The quality of the stone has since declined, and I am sure it is because of the trouble in Afghanistan. Nevertheless, I adore the color of that stone, and can't seem to ever get enough of it!!

I love gems in 14k. I was blessed to date a guy for 10 years until he passed on April 29, 2009. He bought me all kinds of jewelry....kunzite, ruby, sapphire, moissanite, chrome diopside, pink tourmaline, green tourmaline, seafoam tourmaline, citrine, diamond, and more. I smile and think of him when I wear them.
Peace

I adore my alternative birthstones, alexandrite and moonstone. Thanks to HSN I was able to pick up a couple of alexandrite rings somewhat affordably. Yet I long for a big (4 ct or so) emerald-cut emerald. Mmmmm!

About 20 years ago, my dad stopped in Thailand on his way to Nepal, and before he left he told me he was going to buy my mom some sapphires and rubies. I still remember my mom telling me AmEx called because there was a suspicious purchase, from "The Royal Lapidary" in Bangkok. For all she knew, my dad had been mugged or lost his cards or who knows what (pretty much anything can happen there). So I told her I was pretty confident it was a legit purchase. So, it wasn't the complete surprise he had planned. I don't know how much he spent, but he picked the stones and the setting... totally not my mom's taste of course, lol. He sure picked some good ones, I even worried they could be fake. A few years ago she had them, and several emeralds she had in another ring she got in the 60's all set in a cigar band. They are all really beautiful together, and definitely NOT fake. :)

I'm a sapphire baby, but....
Ruby for me & only Burmese, I just can't get enough!
Next would be pearls, I have tons & keep getting more. I think there is truely nothing more ladylike, elegant & lovely as pearls. Lately, they are SO affordable, my fav is a Dallas Prince necklace, exquisite!
My dream ring would be an assscher cut 5 carat canary diamond, ruby or emerald. I'd accept any above as an alternate engagement ring.

Anything teal even if it's a created stone. I just love the color. I guess my dream stone would be a large, good quality teal apatite.

Favorite gemstone? Hmmmm...I'm thinking, ALL OF THEM! But I have to agree that emeralds just fascinate me, with amethyst being a close runner-up as well. My birthstone is amethyst and when I see a really fine one it has always been able to take my breath away. But right now I am also kinda partial to this beautiful blue topaz in my VW Starfish ring!
