Does anyone have a cat that has constipation problems, if so, what do you do. My Himalayan has such problems. My husband is away working and would give her Laxatone, but she growls and bites me when I try to put it in her mouth. Any ideas??
thanks

If she normally eats dry food, wet would most likely help her.

Perhaps some warm milk,( 1 part water to 2 parts whole milk) my cats love it but if this is something new to your cat, it may do the trick. Also some fish oil on the food might help .

Please let us know , hope this helps!

add 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of olive or safflower oil to his food.also long haired cats can get bound up swallowing hair grooming so brush him really well regularly.

I have a long-hair as well. there is also Petramalt, which is similar to Laxatone. I can put it in his mouth, but when he fights me, I smear it on his front paws and he licks it off. But make sure it's smeared well, or he can shake it off.

There is also a liquid that you can get from you vet if it's severe. the vet can give you a 'human' prescription which is a fraction of the price and the same thing. Unlike oils, it's not absorbed into the system, just lubricates the tract. It can be mixed with wet food.

I normally use hairball medicine like Petromalt or stuff I buy from the vet (please stay away from Hartz products!). When I ran out, I read that canned pumpkin is a good source for this problem. I gave my cat, Milo who is a Maine Coon, a teaspoon to see if he would eat and he gobbled it up. It did work. He ate this for about 2-3 days until the new wore off. Like I said, it did work.

I have a female torbie that hates the Harz, OTC, hairball meds. She has horrible hairball problems. If the canned pumpkin works well to flush the system of hair balls other than up and out, I would love to try it. Are there any other hair ball solution other than meds?
