Any suggestions on what to take? Mine come irregularly, a couple of times a week in the same spot (low calf to the foot). It will subside for a few weeks and then come back...Dang, but they sure hurt.

Hi, DFTX...well, I had very bad leg cramps when I was pregnant. So, I asked my doctor and she said that Tums (believe it or not) are full of calcium and will help alleviate the cramps. Worked like a charm for me. My mom, who is 76 takes them too because she sometimes gets leg cramps. The doctor says that they are okay to take even though they are for heartburn, etc. I hope that helps you and that you feel better soon.
Keep looking up!

Do you eat banana or kiwifruit regularly?...both are good sources of potassium and also help reduce leg cramping.

I do when I think about it. Did you know that Brazil nuts have a very high concentration of potassium too? My doctor said that they are really good for you. I eat three or four a day and that more than reached the daily recommended amount. I buy them unsalted and they are yummy and filling. Have you ever tried them?

You should also drink plenty of water. I had problems with nighttime leg cramps a couple of years ago and all the usual remedies weren't having any effect. I read in a magazine in my doctor's waiting room that leg cramps are sometimes a sign of dehydration. I showed the article to the doctor and she told me to try it, it certainly couldn't hurt. It worked! I rarely have cramps now, and when I do, I just push water for a few days and they go away.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I took a potassium tablet this afternoon and I'm drinking lots of water. I also took a couple of Tums this morning. While I was at Walmart, I picked up a small bottle of something called "Leg Cramps". If all else fails, that will be my last resort.
I've had this before but after a while it went away and was gone for some time but came back.

I get them occasionally, and my doctor said it's low potassium and to drink a glass of orange juice at the first sign of them. So far, it has worked to keep them away. They are so painful. I agree with drinking water, too.

my hubby and i both get leg cramps, and we keep mixed-nuts on hand, as this really helps, also raisins....also things we eat can bring this on, such as to-much chocolate, and we can't drink orange-juice because of the acid.....vitamins help also such as fish-oil, yes plenty of water..exercise will help also....yes leg-cramps is no-fun at all...good-luck to all.
