I just received the Joy Mangano Convertible Custom Fireplace with Media Storage. Wasn't as easy to assemble as I thought it would be. It has pre-drilled holes for the dowels, but not for the s. I must caution everyone to be careful, it doesn't have pre-drilled holes for the little s that hold it together, not even a puncture. It is very easy to over tighten and have it become useless. Does anyone know if you can replace insert with one of those Amish inserts? At my own expense of course. I like the design of this one, but like the electric inserts of the Amish ones.

No, there would be no way to do that. I have a fireplace similar to the Joy one but not made by her - they are basically all made the same, and since I know she didn't invent the fireplace like she thinks she did....I know enough on how they are constructed that it wouldn't be worth all the trouble and it probably wouldn't turn out right anyway.
You could buy an electric log - I have seen them at Lowe's, and use that but not one of those Amish things. Anyway, look how much you would have invested in those 2 items - almost enough to have a real fireplace.

There's a big difference in the way the Amish fireplace looks as compared to one like Joy's - the ones you put together that burn gel with real flames are much more realistic.
