Well I'm in the market for a new laptop, maybe. I have a Dell 17" (heavy thing) and the battery is dead so I can just buy a new battery or get a new one with this new Windows 7. The Dell has XP which I got on purpose because I heard about the issues with Vista.
If I got a new one it would be a 15" which would be a little lighter. My question is has anyone heard anything about this new Windows 7 is it gong to be Vista all over again, if not which brand should I go for?
Not a fan of:
Mac - hate it so its not an option Dell - if I must I will get one but would rather not as I don't care for the one I have now.
Thanks

Windows 7 is supposed to be much better. Actually, the kinks have been worked out of Vista, and it's really stable now.

I need help too, cheapgal. Got a Gateway laptop from HSN, Vista. Already having hardware issues on it, plus it's lagging quite a bit. It will be 3 yrs. old in January. I have read a lot about windows 7, and they say it is a lot better than Vista. Most people hated Vista, including me. They have tested and tested, and so far, most people who tried it, love it. I am purchasing a laptop with Windows 7 already pre-installed, but my dilemma is what brand. I guess it's between a Sony Vaio, regular Sony or HP. Maybe Toshiba. I don't want to install Windows 7 on this Gateway since it is already having some issues, plus the age of it. I hear most laptops last between 3 to 4 years. Some lomger yes, but not this one. If anyone can give advice, I would greatly appreciate it. as far as brand. Thanks!

I have never own one before and this will be my first. I want a 15.6 screen size. Not anything bigger or smaller. Does anyone know when windows 7 will be out? My son's friend has a Toshiba laptop and highly recommends it. I don't know alot about computers and neither does my hubby. LOL I get tired sitting at the computer desk and having a laptop, I can go anywhere in the house with it and put my feet up. LOL

I heard also, LOTSOFDOLLS, that Toshiba is a good brand. Windows 7 will be out on Oct 22nd! I think that day and very shortly after, you will be able to purchase a laptop with Windows 7 pre-installed already. I want something reasonably priced. Sony is a little on the high side, but they are good pc's. As I said in another post, I've read a lot about Windows 7, and so far the people who have used it, love it!! And those are the ones who hated Vista, like most people. Good luck, to us both actually. This just gives me a headache, lol!!!

I have a 15" dell with Vista and I love it. I have never had problems with Vista but I am getting a netbook for school and I am waiting for Win 7. I don't want XP so I am willing to wait. Even a 15" laptop is a little much to haul around. /i have heard from everyone I have talked to that Win 7 is amazing, so I am sure it will be worth the wait.

I am looking for a good price and name brand laptop too. I heard on the news Monday, that this is a good time to be buying a computer, if you are in the market for one. My home computer is XP and never had any problems with it. Knock on wood. LOL Let me know what kind of laptop you bought when you get it and I'll do the same, if you don't mind?? Yes, it can be stressful when shopping for any type of electronic items. P.S. I like your user name. I love being at the ocean on vacation!!! It's so relaxing!!! Happy shopping for everyone here, buying a new computer!!!

You're welcome, LOTSOFDOLLS! And yes, I will let you know when I make that purchase, don't mind at all. Stressful it is. Thanks for the compliment on my username. That is really a dead giveaway on what kind of weather I love. Only I live in Ohio, and our summers here are way too short!

Windows 7 officially launches on Oct. 22.
I have heard good things about the Toshiba laptops too.
I always think that it helps to do some comparison shopping for a computer, both in person and on-line so that you can check out different brands.

Both my sister and I have Toshiba laptops. Neither one of us has had any problems with them...knock on wood - lol. Mine is 2 years old; my sister's is one year old. The few times I have had to call customer service, I found the rep very helpful, knowledgeable, and English speaking. Very highly recommend Toshiba. By the way, we were lucky to hit great sales and purchased them for less than $450. They were well equipped - not stripped down models. Dual core processors, 250 gig hard drive, 2 gig Ram, wireless, Windows Vista Home Premium.

Thanks for the info, jeannellen! I am leaning towards Toshiba. Although Sony is supposed to be great too. Don't want Dell. HP is supposed to be good also. I am guessing that maybe Toshiba is a little better than HP. Can anyone verify or help me on that one? MAC's I don't know too much about, and they are super expensive. So it's either Sony, Toshiba, or HP for me. Wouldn't do another Gateway like I have now. Not crazy about the brand. Thanks for any info ahead of time!

I had a Toshiba since 2006 with XP on it and it was a great laptop at first. Last year, the screen went bad on it and dh who is a computer tech checked into just replacing the screen. It was $1500 to replace just it and we paid only $600 for the laptop brand new. We hooked up the computer to a flatsceen desk top monitor until July of this year. Then, this year it got a worm and it worked it's way into the registry and the computer. We replaced it with a Dell Hybrid that has Vista on it. We love it! Vista has been really good. We are now waiting on our free upgrade to 7 since we bought the computer from Dell. Dh says they have taken the best of Vista features and expanded on them.

Why do you hate Apple? They are the Mercedes-Benz of the computing word and you can use Word and many other programs that Windows runs. Plus, chances of getting a virus are slim.
Get some back copies of Consumer Reports. Great CNET and other Internet reviews. Talk to some IT people if you know of any. THERE IS considerable information from professionals on-line that will give you comparisons, etc.

Pc's are more prone for viruses because there are MORE PEOPLE that use pc's than mac computers. So it only makes sense that there are more viruses out fo pc's than macs. After all, hackers gotta be smart enough to hit what's more popular if they want a widespread virus. Viruses are easily avoided if you only open emails from senders you recognize and don't visit inappropriate sites.

Hi Lotsofdolls! I finally made that purchase this past Sunday. I purchased a Sony Vaio 15.5 inch screen laptop. I love it. Windows 7 is so cool, although I'm still learning the features. I got it at Best Buy for a great price. Couldn't pass it up. HHGregg had the same thing for more money and a light pink color that I didn't like. This one is a brown color only it looks coppery brown, very pretty. So far so good. The keys are spaced out, which is a nice feature, it's hard to hit 2 at once. I love it. If you have any more questions just ask. It has 4GB of Ram and 320 GB Harddrive. So lot's of room. Great price for alot of features.
